I’m Sophie, a New Zealand born, GB representing, ultra-runner based in a campervan at the base of some big European mountain. My ultra-adventures started when my husband bought me an entry for the 2013 Marathon des Sables as a birthday present. I finished fourth, and was hooked on the long stuff. Since then I have completed the UTMB five times, including a PB sub-28 hour race in 2018, and have had top 10 finishes at Transgrancanaria, Lavaredo Ultra Trail, and the Highland Fling.

I just love the freedom of Ultra Running. It's always an adventure, allowing me to explore new and beautiful places on my own two feet, which makes me really happy! The best thing about living in a van is being able to move where the wind takes us. It’s taken us to places I never even knew existed, allowing me to train in some incredible landscapes! It’s hard not to be motivated when there is always a new mountain on your doorstep.

I’ve always had issues with finding a fuelling strategy that works for me, as I struggle with feeling nauseous during races. Longhaul ultra-fuels have helped me take on proper nutrition that I can actually digest during my long races without causing stomach issues.
